Muhammara
A thick dip of roasted red peppers, walnuts, breadcrumbs and pomegranate molasses — smoky, sweet, sour and hot at once.
What makes it muhammara
- Roasted red peppers and walnuts.
- Pomegranate molasses for sour-sweetness.
- Aleppo pepper for heat.
Where it comes from
From Aleppo, in Syria, where the local chilli — Aleppo pepper, fruity and mild — gives it warmth. The name comes from the Arabic for reddened.
